It'll be a short trip down I-35 for a 6:30 first pitch against the Southwest Texas Texas State Bobcats for Augie Garrido's bunch. The Horns have won 13 of 15 games since dropping its first two games in California and the polls are beginning to notice.
Boyd's World has the Longhorns #1 in all the land in its Iterative Strength Rating due to the Horns having played the #6 ranked strength of schedule (with wins over #7, #11, #18, #20, #21 and #48 in the ISR). Baseball America has been the most bullish real poll for Texas and they kept the Horns at #10 after a 4-1 week, Collegiate Baseball has the Horns at #14, and Perfect Game puts the Horns at #16 -- one spot behind #15 Rice because apparently 2<0.
Tonight it'll be a battle of the freshmen midweek starters as the Horns send up Blake Goins for his third midweek start and the Bobcats counter with Dylan Bein making his third midweek start. Bein was torched a bit in relief against Rice but hasn't given up an earned run in his last 8.1 innings pitched. The Bobcats lost a heartbreaker to Rice earlier in the season and have lost three of four to Valpo and Washington State in the last week.
Tonight's game is on television locally on KBVO (not living in Texas I have no clue what that is) and streaming on ESPN3.
Finally, a huge thank you is due to our resident photographers bandito and Schoolly_D without whom we wouldn't have any Texas baseball pictures to accompany these riveting posts.
First pitch is at 6:30 tonight and this'll be your open thread.
