French, Longhorns Take Game One

Parker French and Chad Hollingsworth combined to two-hit the Cowboys and get Texas back in the win column.

Texas came into the weekend needing to get a series win after suffering a sweep at the hands of TCU last weekend. Getting the Friday W would be a crucial start to the weekend, and two Texas hurlers delivered exactly the performance their teammates needed. Holding first-place Oklahoma State to two hits on the evening, starter Parker French went six innings and reliever Chad Hollingsworth finished out the last three of a 3-0 Texas shutout.

The Longhorns put together enough offense to seal the deal with a run in the fourth and a couple more for insurance in the eighth. All three runs were scored the Augie Way, with CJ Hinojosa singling to lead off both frames and then being sacrificed to second by Collin Shaw. each inning then featured a single by Zane Gurwitz. The eerily perfect symmetry ends there; Hinojosa scored on a Jacob Felts fielder's choice in the fourth, and in the eighth he scored on Gurwitz' single before Gurwitz came around on a Felts single.

The 3-0 cushion would be all Hollingsworth needed, as he allowed a single but no other damage in the top of the ninth to wrap up the series opener for Texas. A win today would move Texas into a tie with the Pokes at 11-6 in the conference, percentage points behind 10-5 TCU which is out of conference this weekend.

Today's game is at 1:00 on the Longhorn Network. This is your open thread.
