Texas Baseball Draws #2 Seed With Texas A&M, Rice, George Mason

New, 40 comments

Texas baseball will see an old foe in the NCAA Tournament as the Horns drew a #2 seed in the Rice regional. They'll face #3 Texas A&M and potentially #1 seed Rice and #4 seed George Mason.

This was fun.

Texas blew a pair of late leads against Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Tournament costing the Horns any chance of hosting an NCAA regional. Instead the Horns will head to Houston to play in the Rice regional. Texas will first get Texas A&M at 3 PM on Friday before possibly facing Rice or George Mason later in the weekend.

You remember Texas A&M, right? The Aggies eschewed a life of constant finishes as the Big 12's fourth to sixth best football team year after year for life in the grand old SEC. Texas A&M has thrived in the SEC while playing two of the best football seasons in Aggy history the last two years. These two monumental seasons were good enough for a fourth and a sixth place in their new conference, a step up indeed! Why be Texas and Oklahoma's little brother when you can be LSU, Auburn and Alabama's?

The Ags went 33-24 in baseball in 2014, including a 14-16 mark in conference, and were one of the last team's added to the NCAA tournament field. If Texas can beat A&M they'd likely get to play a Rice team that went 1-2 against the Horns in 2014 including 0-2 in the city of Houston.

There will be much more preview of this regional later in the week. It's not too much of a stretch of the imagination to see Texas winning the regional but it's also not much of a stretch seeing the Horns go 0-2 while scoring just one run.

In the mean time, this is your Best Aggy Joke Open Thread.
