Texas Baseball vs Minnesota: Saturday DH Open Thread

The Longhorns took Game One 13-2 last night and look to keep rolling today against the winless Gophers.

Texas plays a doubleheader against Minnesota at the Disch today, with the first game starting at 3:00 PM. Parker French delivered the best starting pitching performance yet on the young season for Texas, giving up just three hits and one earned run over six innings of work. Sophomore John Malmin closed out the victory with three innings of one-hit ball.

The offense, though, continued to assert itself and furthered the impression that, for the first time in years, the identity of a Longhorn team may well be as mashers with solid pitching, rather than great pitchers with good-enough offense. The final score was 13-2, powered largely by the efforts of Collin Shaw, Bret Boswell, and Michael Cantu -- one senior and two newcomers -- who combined for nine hits just among the three of them, with six of those hits going for extra bases. Shaw was particularly on fire against the visiting Minnesotans, pounding out two doubles and a triple on the night.

Chad Hollingsworth and Josh Sawyer will get the starts today, both attempting to shake off tough first appearances. Hollingsworth started his season giving up three runs and eight hits in just 4.2 innings at Rice, while Sawyer lasted just 4.1 in Houston, giving up five earned runs, seven hits, and two walks.
