Texas Longhorns hosting important Junior Day

One of the biggest recruiting events of the spring takes place on Saturday.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Gone are the days when the Texas Longhorns would pick up numerous commitments on Junior Days, but the probable lack of big-time fireworks doesn't decrease the significance of the event.

Sure, Saturday's Junior Day, the only one head coach Charlie Strong plans to hold this spring, won't even feature many offers going out, but it does represent a major chance to favorably impact a number of important prospects.

Here's a list of confirmed visitors who plan on being in attendance (via Twitter, Bleacher ReportHornSports, and the Statesman). As always, this list is fluid and subject to change (names in bold are confirmed visitors):

  • Rowlett quarterback Logan Bonner
  • Arlington Lamar quarterback Shane Buechele (Texas commit) (Thursday 11:05 a.m.)
  • Potomac (Mary.) Bullis School quarterback Dwayne Haskins
  • Rosenberg George Ranch running back Darius Anderson -- The tough-to-tackle back picked up an offer on Saturday.
  • Houston Stratford running back Rakeem Boyd
  • Katy running back Kyle Porter
  • Beaumont Central running back Devwah Whaley (Friday 10:35 a.m.)
  • Houston King all-purpose back Trayveon Williams
  • West Mesquite wide receiver Dee Anderson (LSU commit)
  • Waco La Vega wide receiver Brandon Benson
  • Navasota wide receiver Tren'Davian Dickson (Thursday 11:05 a.m.)
  • Sachse wide receiver Devin Duvernay
  • Manvel wide receiver Reggie Hemphill (Texas commit)
  • Patterson (La.) wide receiver Mykel Jones (Friday 12:54 p.m.)
  • Dallas First Baptist wide receiver Camron Williams
  • Argyle tight end JC Chalk (Clemson commit)
  • New Orleans (La.) John Curtis offensive tackle Willie Allen -- Went to Tulane instead. Bad news for Texas since he's not going to Tulane and decided not to come to Austin with his teammate.
  • North Mesquite offensive tackle Jean Delance (Oklahoma commit) -- Couldn't attend due to weather, but picked up an offer anyway.
  • Trophy Club Byron Nelson offensive tackle Kellen Diesch (247Sports) (Thursday 11:51 a.m.)
  • Manvel offensive tackle Austin Myers (TCU commit) (Friday 12:53 p.m.)
  • Belton offensive tackle Zach Shackelford
  • Copperas Cove offensive tackle JP Urquidez
  • Mineola offensive lineman Austin Anderson
  • Mineola offensive lineman Riley Anderson
  • Crosby offensive lineman Keenan Murphy
  • Fort Bend Hightower defensive tackle Darius Anderson
  • Killeen Shoemaker defensive tackle Kendell Jones
  • Houston Westfield defensive tackle Ed Oliver (Thursday 11:05 a.m.)
  • Austin LBJ defensive tackle Johnnie Williams
  • Manor linebacker/defensive end Erick Fowler
  • Cibolo Steele linebacker/defensive end Mark Jackson (Friday 10:38 a.m.)
  • Gilmer linebacker Demarco Boyd (Texas commit)
  • Manvel linebacker Jordan Carmouche
  • New Orleans (La.) John Curtis linebacker Nate Evans
  • Alief Elsik linebacker Dontavious Jackson
  • Aldine Davis linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch (Friday 10:40 a.m.)
  • Kountze cornerback Grayland Arnold (Baylor commit)
  • Fort Bend Hightower cornerback Julian Chandler
  • Waco La Vega cornerback Parrish Cobb
  • Waco cornerback Eric Cuffee -- The three-star prospect picked up the third known offer to go out on Saturday.
  • Southlake Carroll cornerback Obi Eboh (Friday 10:41 a.m.)
  • College Station cornerback Rajah Preciado (Friday 10:14 a.m.)
  • Alief Elsik safety Chris Brown
  • Galena Park North Shore safety Eric Monroe
  • Austin St. Andrew's athlete Blais Herman
  • Katy Tompkins athlete Christian Wallace
  • Wylie East athlete Aubrey White (Kansas commit) -- White picked up an offer as an athlete/running back on Saturday.

Not attending

  • DeSoto quarterback Tristen Wallace (Texas Tech commit) -- The recent Texas offer was planning on traveling to Lubbock this weekend, but those plans may fall through because Texas Tech moved back its Junior Day because of potential inclement weather.
  • Manvel safety Deontay Anderson -- Hemphill thought that Anderson was going to be able to make it with him as recently as last week, but that apparently is not the case now, according to HornSports.

There are also a number of other key targets who likely won't be in attendance. As the 2015 cycle proves, that's hardly a death knell for any recruitments. However, it would certainly be ideal to get some of those prospects on campus for a spring practice or the Orange-White game.
