Texas didn't play great on Saturday, but the Horns pitched well and got enough timely hits to beat Kansas State twice 5-3 and 3-1. Parker French threw 6 innings in the first game but left after a walk and throwing error gave KSU a 3-2 lead over the Horns. Kirby Bellow came in and brilliantly quelled the Wildcats offense on his way to a pair of scoreless innings for the senior lefty. Texas struck back in the 8th with a pair of doubles and a pair of singles to give the Horns the final 5-3 margin.
Chad Hollingsworth displayed the brilliance that we all saw last June in the second game. The junior threw 7.1 IP, allowing one earned run and only needing 88 pitches. Bellow came in and struck out two Wildcats over 1.2 IP for the save.
For the day Bellow threw 3.2 IP, struck out two, walked none and allowed no hits or runs all while picking up a win and a save. Bellow is having a tremendous senior season and now has more innings pitched in 23 games of 2015 (18) than he had in his previous FOUR years on the 40 Acres (16 IP from 2011 to 2014).
The series concludes today at 1 PM with Kacy Clemens on the mound. A sweep would be lovely and would keep Texas at least tied for first in the Big 12 through the first two conference weekends.
