Texas Takes on Sam Houston State

Texas returns to action needing a win over Sam Houston State.

Bruce Thorson-USA TODAY Sports

Texas has seven games left in its schedule that will be played at UFCUDFF starting tonight versus Sam Houston State at 6 PM. The Horns are formally on the NCAA bubble and will need series wins over Kansas and Texas Tech and no sweep at the hands of TCU to realistically make the tournament.

It'll be sophomore Josh Sawyer on the mound for Texas. It has been a rough year for Sawyer who has struggled to find a role after losing the Sunday starter job. I don't like to focus on the negative, so I'll throw out some positive developments for Texas baseball this season:

Kacy Clemens has been very solid the last few weeks other than a rough start at Oklahoma State. As a Sunday starter, he's ideal. Can give you a number of solid innings and has been relatively reliable this season. As your team's Saturday starter it's not the greatest.

Michael Cantu and Joe Baker have both opened eyes. Tres Barrera's rough weekend and Cantu's amazing weekend last weekend may have cemented his job going forward. Baker has similarly been impressive both offensively and defensively in taking over for the struggling CJ Hinojosa.

First pitch is at 6 PM, this can be your open thread. Hook 'em.
