Texas CB Jermaine Roberts suffers knee injury in practice

The injuries just keep coming.

Another practice, another injury for the Texas Longhorns.

Redshirt freshman cornerback Jermaine Roberts went down with a knee injury that will require further evaluation, school officials said Saturday, a day after senior linebacker Dalton Santos suffered an ankle injury that had teammates praying for a quick recovery.

The Longhorns are already thin at cornerback after senior Sheroid Evans suffered his own knee injury that will sideline him for the remainder of spring practice.

Roberts was backing up redshirt freshman John Bonney in the nickelback position, but may also have been getting reps at the field spot Evans was playing. With Roberts out for an undetermined period of time, Texas is left with senior Duke Thomas, junior Bryson Echols, and sophomore Antwuan Davis as the only healthy cornerbacks other than Bonney.

Entering the spring, the team was hardly a picture of health, either, with six of the 12 scholarship defensive linemen either sidelined with injuries or limited by them. So one of the best things that could happen to the defense right now is to get through the next two weeks without any suffering any more injuries.
