Evaluations in Louisiana by Texas Longhorns defensive line coach Brick Haley produced a Friday offer for Ponchatoula offensive guard Donavaughn Campbell:
Officially have a offer from the University of Texas— Donavaughn Campbell (@_donavaughn91) May 15, 2015
The 6'4, 347-pounder pledged to the home-state Tigers in early January. Ranked as a consensus four-star prospect, Campbell is the No. 108 recruit, the No. 3 offensive guard, and the No. 10 player in Louisiana, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, and UCLA.
Could the relationship between Haley and Campbell make a difference for the Longhorns? The former LSU defensive line coach was the primary recruiter for Campbell prior to leaving Baton Rouge. However, Ponchatoula is only 45 miles away from Baton Rouge and Campbell committed upon receiving his offer, so it clearly wasn't a difficult decision for him to stay close to home and pledge to his dream school.
Campbell isn't known as the most agile of prospects -- hardly a surprise given his weight -- but is a mauler in the run game because of his mass, strength, and natural punch.
