Report: Texas OT Camrhon Hughes leaving the program

Another offensive lineman is leaving the Texas Longhorns program, according to a report from Orangebloods.com, which says that junior offensive tackle Camrhon Hughes won't be with the team when it reports on August 6.

A school official traveling with head coach Charlie Strong for ESPN interviews declined to confirm the report to the Austin American-Statesman, but the player known to his head coach as NCAA -- No Contact At All -- looked like he was out of the rotation during the spring with the arrival of several early enrollees.

The 6'7, 324-pounder arrived as a four-star prospect out of Harker Heights, but suffered an ACL tear the summer before his freshman season and never regained his mobility. Despite his movement issues, Hughes stepped into the starting lineup at right tackle against Iowa State for his first career appearance after former five-star prospect Darius James fell out of favor with offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Joe Wickline, starting the next five games before giving way to Jake Raulerson for the Texas Bowl against Arkansas.

But with early enrollee Connor Williams starting in the Orange-White game at right tackle and available options behind him in fellow early enrollees Garrett Thomas, Tristan Nickelson, and Brandon Hodges, Hughes fell out of favor and appeared unlikely to play much in 2015.

If Hughes does depart, he would become the fifth offensive lineman to leave in the last year, joining Rami Hammad, Desmond Harrison, Curtis Riser, and Darius James. All five were ranked as four-star prospects or higher.
