Oof.
Special teams catastrophe struck the Longhorns once again, as freshman punter Michael Dickson had a critical snap go through his hands, resulting in a punt that went for a six-yard loss for a 30-27 loss to the Cowboys. It was the second time in two weeks that the Horns lost on a late gaffe, as senior place kicker Nick Rose missed the game-tying extra point late against
Oklahoma State capitalized with a 40-yard field goal from Ben Grogan with six seconds left for the final margin.
The Cowboys benefitted from several questionable penalty calls on the previous drive, including a defensive holding penalty and a personal foul penalty on head coach Charlie Strong. So the offense only managed four plays for a loss of one yard on the drive, but still managed to kick the game-tying field goal because of penalties.
It was one of the worst officiated games in recent memory, but the Horns didn't help themselves out in the crucial moments.
