Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong isn't afriad of making drastic changes to bolster his offense -- he did so when promoting Shawn Watson to offensive coordinator at Louisville in the middle of the 2011 season -- but the decision to demote Watson from play caller was clearly a difficult decision for Strong.
On Tuesday evening, Strong detailed why he promoted wide receivers coach Jay Norvell to the role of Texas play caller after avoiding his staff on Sunday because he was so upset and not sleeping all week.
"Jay has been familiar with the spread, coming from Oklahoma. He has done it," Strong said. "We just want to make sure we talk about an up-tempo offense. That's what everyone wants to see, and it's still about making sure you play with good fundamentals and technique, making sure we can move the football."
