The Longhorns remain in a good position to finish strong with another key Louisiana target.

The Texas Longhorns are still in the mix for New Orleans (La.) McDonogh 35 defensive tackle Stephon Taylor, who released his list of top five schools via Twitter on Thursday:

So the other four finalists in addition to the Longhorns are Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, a list that has been pending since before Christmas when Taylor first teased it. The 6'4, 292-pounder used an official visit to trip to Norman in 2015, but has not yet used any of his four other official visits. With only three recruiting weekends left until National Signing Day, Taylor either won't visit one of the other four finalists before making his decision or will take a mid-week visit to the school that doesn't receive one on the weekend.

A Football Brainiacs report in late December indicated that Taylor will take an official visit to Austin in January and had Texas as his leader, according to a source. Similar information out the Longhorns leading might have been getting out elsewhere, too, as an unrelated 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction came in for the Horns right around that time.

Taylor visited Texas last summer and has had the Longhorns in the mix for a while, in part due to his longtime relationship with defensive line coach Brick Haley, who held the same position in Baton Rouge before coming to Texas.

Speaking of LSU, the Tigers were long considered the favorite. However, a Thursday report linked defensive line coach and ace recruiter Ed Orgeron to the open defensive coordinator position. If Coach O makes the move, it could impact the recruitments of Taylor and fellow Texas defensive tackle target D'Andre Christmas-Giles.
