A Thursday team meeting for the Texas Longhorns that reportedly featured some “fireworks” as several plays aired grievances against teammates and coaches wan’t an unusual occurrence, said head coach Charlie Strong after Saturday night’s win over the Iowa State Cyclones.

“I don’t know why a big deal was made out of that,” Strong said. “I have a team meeting every Thursday. Every Thursday at 3:30 I meet with the team and I just set out, this is our plan to go win the game and a few guys wanted to voice their opinion about some things, but it’s something that I do every Thursday.”

Even if the meeting wasn’t out of the ordinary, the reports that players like freshman Fox end Malcolm Roach called out a certain player, position, and position coach doesn’t seem like the normal Thursday meeting.

Regardless, the result on Saturday supports the effectiveness of the meeting after a strong defensive performance that showcased a fast and confident effort from that side of the ball.
