New Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman continues his early recruiting efforts and will host an important target on Saturday — Aledo offensive tackle Chuck Filiaga, according to his 247Sports profile.

The 6’6, 335-pounder was a target of former head coach Charlie Strong and his staff and that hasn’t changed with Herman, who is actively recruiting Filiaga, Houston Episcopal’s Walker Little, and Denton’s Grant Polley.

A California native who moved to Aledo for his senior season, Filiaga has taken official visits to Michigan and Oklahoma. The Wolverines currently lead in his 247Sports Crystal Ball projections after a big surge in October. However, the Trojans were long considered the frontrunner and could make a move again by hosting the big tackle on an official visit.

Texas hosted Filiaga on a visit last March and made his top 10 in September. He’s set to announce at the 2017 US Army All-American game on January 7.

A consensus four-star prospect, Filiaga is the No. 97 player nationally, the No. 14 offensive tackle, and the No. 13 player in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Texas currently holds seven pledges in the 2017 class, but none of them are offensive linemen. After taking a large group in the last cycle, the ‘Horns will likely look to add two over the next two months.
