As Texas Longhorns head coach Shaka Smart tries to finalize his 2016 recruiting class, he's also looking ahead to 2017, hosting Hyattsville (Mary.) DeMatha shooting guard DJ Harvey on Tuesday:
University of Texas visit— DJ Harvey (@TheRealDJHarvey) March 29, 2016
The 6'6, 185-pounder picked up his offer from the Longhorns in the immediate aftermath of Smart taking over the Texas job last April. Harvey's 247Sports profile lists recent unofficial visits to home-state Maryland, so don't count out the Terps. However, Arizona and Duke are currently considered his leaders and the Wildcats hold 10 of the 12 predictions cast in Harvey's 247Sports Crystal Ball.
With Smart's skill building relationships, it's possible that the time on campus in Austin could convince Harvey to look seriously at the Longhorns. If that ends up being the case, it would be a significant development since Smart does not yet hold any pledges in the 2017 class.
A consensus five-star prospect, Harvey is considered the No. 17 prospect overall, the No. 3 shooting guard, and the No. 1 player in Maryland for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
