Texas Senior Cameron Ridley will not play in the Big 12 Tournament, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports. While this is not entirely surprising, Shaka Smart was still hopeful even a couple of weeks ago that Ridley would be able to come back in early March.
The Longhorns have been without their star big man since their December 20th game against Stanford. He broke his left foot in practice on December 27th, and underwent surgery two days later. Coaches initially speculated that the injury could be healed by late February. However, big men sometimes have more trouble coming back from lower body injuries and that certainly seems to be the case with Ridley.
Ridley will not be eligible for a medical redshirt due to the fact that he participated in over 30% of the team's games. His season has not been completely ruled out, as there is still hope that he can return for the NCAA tournament. Prior to his injury, he had been averaging 12.7 points and 10 rebounds a game -- both of which were career highs.
