The Texas Longhorns are the latest school to offer DeSoto offensive guard Xavier Newman. The 6'2.5, 272-pounder was a standout at the Dallas The Opening Regional camp and has seen his offer list increase to over 20.

Ranked as a consensus three-star prospect, Newman is the No. 1150 player overall, the No. 46 offensive guard, and the No. 154 player in Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, but should receive a bump at some point since his recruitment has taken off so quickly. Schools to offer Newman include Arizona State, Colorado, lllinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and others.
Right now, the Aggies are the consensus leader for Newman's services, currently holding all three predictions in his 247Sports Crystal Ball.
Still relatively lean, Newman plays left tackle and some center for DeSoto because of his excellent mobility, but projects as a pure guard at the next level unless he has a late growth spurt. Since he does need to add some mass and strength, he's a likely redshirt candidate unless he can a significant amount of weight over the next year. On film, one of his best attributes is his motor -- once Newman gets his hands on his amounts, he consistently keeps his feet moving and plays to the whistle, much like 2016 early enrollee Zach Shackelford.
