Texas QB commit Sam Ehlinger invited to Elite 11 Finals

A strong performance a long way from home earned the 2017 Longhorns quarterback pledge a big honor.

A little bit of persistence (and a plane ticket) paid off for Texas Longhorns quarterback commit Sam Ehlinger, as an appearance at the New Jersey The Opening Regional camp on Sunday resulted in an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals this summer for the Austin Westlake product.

Ehlinger had already gone to the Houston The Regional camp early last month and was one of the best quarterbacks in attendance, but was not able to punch his ticket to the Finals at that time. Now the fifth Texas quarterback commit in the last six years to earn Elite 11 recognition, Ehlinger is hoping to follow in the footsteps of 2016 signee Shane Buechele, who was one of the top performers at the event last year and nearly took home MVP honors.

Accurate and attentive in Houston, Ehlinger impressed by consistently putting passes in a position for wide receivers to make plays and by constantly looking for extra coaching and extra reps. Now he'll have a chance to go head-to-head with the top quarterbacks in the country and prove that he's worthy of his ranking by 247Sports as the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the country.
