4-star GA LB Tyler Taylor doesn’t include Texas in his top 6

The recruiting focus for the ‘Horns at linebacker will primarily return to in-state efforts.

A visit to Austin in late May wasn’t enough to help the Texas Longhorns make the top six for Buford (Ga.) Lanier linebacker Tyler Taylor, who released his list of leaders on Sunday:

As the consensus four-star prospect noted, “things can change” in his recruitment and the inclusion of a school like Oklahoma State over Texas is a little bit surprising since the Pokes haven’t been winning head-to-head recruiting battles over the ‘Horns on a frequent basis.

However, Taylor may not even be at the top of the Texas board at the moment — after some backlash from high school football coaches in the state following the 2015 recruiting cycle, head coach Charlie Strong and his staff have increased the emphasis on targeting and taking in-state players over out-of-state players.

At inside linebacker, Anthony Hines remains the top target for Strong, so missing the cut for Taylor will only become an issue if the top linebackers from the Lone Star State head elsewhere.
