Five-star small forward Jarred Vanderbilt took to Twitter Friday afternoon to announce his nine finalists and the Texas Longhorns among those still in consideration:
I would like to thank every school who has ever recruited me. After deep evaluations, these are my final 9 schools‼️ pic.twitter.com/gb5CwVD3z2— Jarred Vanderbilt (@JVando_) July 22, 2016
Along with Texas, Vanderbilt is still considering Kentucky, Houston, Kansas, Arizona, Oregon, North Carolina, TCU and Baylor.
The Victory Prep product is among the very best at his position, as well as one of the top talents in the nation, ranking No. 6 and No. 16, respectively. The in-state product from Bellaire has been a major priority for quite some time now and moving forward, Shaka Smart and his staff certainly have their work cut out for them in hopes of getting the 6’8 forward to Austin. That said, it will be interesting to see what impact Jai Lucas can have on the elite Houston-area wing after recently receiving a promotion, largely due to his priceless value on the recruiting front.
Vanderbilt is yet to visit the Forty Acres, but that’s quite likely going to change now that he’s narrowed his list and only lives a couple hours outside of Austin. Kentucky is currently considered the heavy favorite to land the No. 4 ranked player in Texas.
