After being suspended indefinitely last season, Texas Longhorns sophomore wide receiver DeAndre McNeal will transfer from the program, according to 247Sports.
The report says McNeal requested his release from head coach Charlie Strong Wednesday, though, he’s not permitted to transfer to any Big 12 school, Notre Dame, UTEP or California.
The news of McNeal’s decision to leave doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering he was back at home in Dallas following his suspension, rather than still being on campus with the team.
After entering Austin as the No. 20 athlete in 2015, McNeal didn’t record a single catch last season, and following several dropped passes in the spring game, that may not have changed much in 2016, regardless.
As NCAA rules state, McNeal will have to sit out one season at his next destination before having three years of eligibility remaining.
