Shaka Smart joins the College Hoops Today podcast to talk Texas, recruiting, more

Once again, a Shaka Smart interview filled with class act responses

NCAA Basketball: North Carolina at Texas Brendan Maloney-USA TODAY Sports

While the majority of talks concerning the Texas Longhorns are inherently focused on the football team this time of year, there’s much reason for discussion regarding the Shaka Smart’s basketball program. To that end, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein hosted Smart on his College Hoops Today podcast to discuss a wide array of topics and players.

The two talked Smart’s experience with Team USA and whether his position as the head coach provided any recruiting advantages, how his recruiting approach is different than it was at VCU, as well as Smart’s early impressions of freshmen James Banks and Jarrett Allen and which freshmen are expected to have an impact.

Later on in the podcast, Rothstein probes Smart to talk the unfortunately unforgettable loss to Northern Iowa in the NCAA Tournament and Isaiah Taylor’s decision to enter the NBA Draft, as well as sophomore’s Kerwin Roach, Eric Davis and Tevin Mack’s progression.

Smart’s feature on the show concluded with discussions of the daunting Big 12 conference slate, Smart’s thoughts on the potential Big 12 expansion and what it’s like to no longer be the upstart program looking to make a name, as was the case at VCU.

Just listen to the podcast below to get up to date on all of Smart’s responses and thoughts. There’s plenty of good stuff to be heard.
