Quarterback recruiting is progressing slowly in the 2018 class for the Texas Longhorns, but one potential early target in the 2019 cycle will on campus on Saturday, as the ‘Horns will host St. Pius X pro-style quarterback Grant Gunnell.
Already 6’5.5 and 192 pounds, Gunnell is mature and possesses a strong arm for his age, as evidenced in the above throw, one which few 2019 prospects can make at this time.
As a result, Gunnell is the No. 53 prospect and No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the early 247Sports rankings. And, in addition to Florida State, Oklahoma State, Houston, Texas A&M, and Texas State have already offered.
The Longhorns likely won’t extend one at this time without seeing Gunnell throw in person, which didn’t happpen this summer because he opted to visit other camps. Two schools he did throw at — Florida State and Texas A&M — extended offers after seeing him in person.
So Gunnell is definitely a name to keep on eye as the recruiting process progresses.
During his freshman season, the tall, lanky gunslinger threw for 1,438 passing yards with 16 touchdowns in completing 60.7 percent of his passes, and added 307 yards and seven more touchdowns on the ground.
