With six offers so far, sophomore quarterback Grant Gunnell has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the state, as well as the nation. The four-star stud recently visited Texas this past weekend and had great things to say about the Longhorns.
‘‘I really enjoyed the visit," Gunnell told Burnt Orange Nation. "It was better than I thought. Some things that stick out to me about Texas is the program, the coaching staff and good academics. Those are things I look for in a school, and Texas has all of those, and I saw that on my last visit.’’
One thing that first caught the eye of Gunnell is how Texas and Charlie Strong have faired on the recruiting trail the last couple years. One thing Gunnell wants in a school, is to be able to compete for a national championship. Gunnell says Texas can do that.
‘‘They’re a very prestigious school," Gunnell told BON. "The academics, history of program and the staff has excellent experience. I connected really well with Coach Gilbert on the visit and he was a really cool coach. My favorite part about the visit was hanging with the coaches. I feel he can make me the best player I can be.’’
With offers from Texas A&M, Florida State, Oklahoma State and others, Gunnell is still looking for the offer from Texas. Saying it would be ‘‘very special,’’ I could see the Longhorns pulling the trigger sometime soon.
‘‘I really hope Texas offers soon. I plan on committing before my junior year for sure, and I really have no favorites as of now. I like all the schools that have interest in me. I know I have one game planned for a visit this year, and that is a Notre Dame game.’’
