It took quite some time for the Texas Longhorns to officially jump into the mix with four-star strongside defense end Ryan Johnson, but that time finally came when Texas offered the Mobile (Ala.) product on Tuesday.

The offer came more than two months after Johnson released his top 12, which obviously didn’t include Texas, but Johnson says the ‘Horns are now included in his final group, per 247Sports.

Johnson, who told 247Sports he grew up a Texas fan watching Vince Young, says the opportunity is a big deal, but there’s no shortage of competition to ultimately land the St. Paul’s Episcopal talent, as Alabama and Auburn are currently considered the frontrunners. In total, Johnson holds 47 offers from programs across the nation. Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 7 strongside defensive end and the No. 10 player in Alabama.
