The trademark East Texas toughness of prospects from the piney woods was on full display during the season opener for Nacogdoches last Friday, as Texas Longhorns cornerback commit Josh Thompson was all over the field for the Golden Dragons, breathing down fire on his opponents:

How about the first play, where Thompson viciously rips the football away from a kick returner on a big gain to force a turnover? Or the speed and range that he flashes to make plays on the edge against ball carriers? Or the physicality with which he brings them down.
Then there was more playmaking on special teams, as Thompson showed off his vision and pure speed in returning a kickoff for a touchdown of 97 yards.
There’s a reason TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson coveted Thompson. And there’s definitely a reason why Texas head coach Charlie Strong decided to pry him away from TCU.
The kid can play.
