Excitement is buizzing through the air at the Texas Longhorns facilities this weekend as the Longhorns begin fall camp. In addition to the beginning of practices, the Longhorns also played host to several visitors this weekend, most notably weakside defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson, who visited on Friday.

One of the most sought-after prospects in the country, Chaisson’s visit to Texas was his first trip to the Forty Acres this summer. The North Shore prospect was originally slated to visit during the Under the Lights camp, but attended an LSU camp instead.

A game-changing pass rusher, Chaisson would fill a tremendous need for the Longhorns, especially if they end up missing out on touted linebacker prospect Erick Fowler. The Under Amour All-American is listed as the No. 5 weakside defensive end and No. 82 player overall, according to 247Sports Composite. At North Shore last season, he recorded a whopping 21 sacks and won a state championship against Westlake High School.

In an interview with Horn Sports at The Opening this summer, Chaisson listed the Longhorns as his fourth team on his top 10. He told Horn Sports that Texas has recently stood out, particularly on the academic side.

“They gave me some good information on the academic side, they have one of the top business programs and that’s what I want to major in, so that definitely caught my eye” Chaisson said. “It’s also not too far or close to home so it’s a cool little place to go.”

Another interesting aspect of his recruitment is his special bond with defensive line coach Brick Haley, who actually coached Chaisson’s father in high school.

One of the most talented players in the state, blue-blood programs have already jumped to capture the four star prospect’s service. Chaisson has offers from LSU, Oklahoma, UH, Texas, Stanford, Florida State, among others. The Longhorns will have stiff competition in order to land him, but appear to be making up ground.

Here is Chaisson’s Crystal Ball projection according to 247 Sports.
