The Texas Longhorns followed up a season-opening thriller victory over Notre Dame with an impressive 41-7 showing over the UTEP Miners. In Texas’ first effort as a ranked program since 2013 (No. 11), the Longhorns provided further flashes of the team many hope they become in 2016, headlined by true freshman quarterback Shane Buechele’s pitching prowess.
Quarterback-turned-receiver Jerrod Heard had himself a nice birthday party, hauling in six receptions for 46 yards and two touchdowns. The special teams impressed, as well, while the defense asserted itself all night, with the exception of an Aaron Jones 51-yard touchdown burst.
