Perhaps this will work out for the ‘Horns after non-conference struggles for the last several seasons.

The Central Florida Knights won’t be coming to Austin in 2017 to play the Texas Longhorns in a non-conference match up, as the school announced on Tuesday that the ‘Horns and Knights will instead face off on September 9, 2023.

The schedule change came at the request of Central Florida, though it’s not clear why exactly the athletic department decided against playing Texas next season. Considering that UCF scheduled Maine, however, it seems that the Knights are simply looking for another guaranteed win in 2017 rather than a likely loss.

Instead, the San Jose Spartans will serve as the third non-conference opponent for Texas next season, with that game scheduled for September 9, 2017.

The ‘Horns and Spartans have never faced off in football, but the match up should provide some scheduling relief, as Texas plays Maryland and USC next season.
