For the first time since 2012, the Texas Longhorns are playing a big game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium as the 2016 season kicks off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, so senior walk-on quarterback Trey Holtz had a message for the burnt orange faithful before the game:
This is the most hyped game I've ever been in. All we ask from the fans is to make this the loudest and best atmosphere we've ever had
— Trey Holtz (@TreyHoltz) September 4, 2016
Holtz is certainly right about the magnitude of the game. And after tepid fan support over the last several seasons amid sagging attendance, he’s also right to wonder if Texas fans will step up to the occasion and provide a rare home-field advantage in Austin.
As long as enough fans heeded the call of defensive coordinator Vance Bedford not to sell their tickets to Notre Dame supporters, there’s a good chance that DKR will be just as rocking on Sunday evening as Holtz wants it to be.
