The Texas Longhorns are officially in pursuit of Pensacola (Fla.) Washington offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, the nation's No. 5 prospect in the 247Sports Composite rankings, after extending an offer on Thursday:

The 6'6, 327-pounder committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide in early June, but may still be a bit open in the recruiting process, as he plans on taking an official visit to see the Michigan Wolverines late this month and also camped with the Miami Hurricanes and USC Trojans following his commitment.
Ranked as the No. 2 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 2 prospect in the state of Florida, Leatherwood is the definition of an elite national recruit, holding offers from many of the country's top programs.
And perhaps he was watching on Sunday night when the 'Horns took down the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. At this point, getting him on campus before National Signing Day is probably the best-case scenario. If that happens, head coach Charlie Strong's closing ability is renowned.
For now, it's wait-and-see mode.
