Tom Herman teases good news for Texas on National Signing Day

The Longhorns picked up one verbal pledge on Monday in addition to a possible silent commitment or two.

In the immediate aftermath of Humble Atascocita offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi flipping to the Texas Longhorns, head coach Tom Herman teased some further additions on National Signing Day:

Note that Herman is seemingly referencing offensive and defensive linemen here — he probably hasn’t heard anything yet from Florida wide receiver Jordan Pouncey. Or he’s gotten some bad news from him that he’s not sharing.

The most likely prospect Herman is referencing here is former Westlake offensive tackle Stephan Zabie, who will announce his decision between Texas, Oklahoma, and USC at 7 a.m. CT on ESPNU.

It’s not clear if Herman means he’s gotten more than one call from a prospect letting him know that they’re going to join the Longhorns class on Wednesday, but other possible decisions could be in from prospects like junior college defensive tackle Larrell Murchison and Galena Park North Shore K’Lavon Chaisson.

However, Murchison is more likely to flip from Ole Miss to Georgia than he is to flip to Texas and Chaisson, being the unique character that he is, seems like the type of prospect who might even keep his decision from the respective coaching staffs until he makes it some time around 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

And that’s even assuming that Chaisson has come to his decision already or will do so prior to announcing — many prospects use all the time available to weigh their options, like John Bonney did in 2014 during a long night of praying.

So, for now, it looks like Zabie is the most likely silent commit, but that by itself is certainly good news for a program looking to add tackle depth.
