Whatever long-shot dreams existed of Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback JT Barrett becoming a graduate transfer and linking up with former offensive coordinator Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns suffered a significant, if not fatal, blow on Wednesday afternoon:
Some Buckeyes fans were ready to see Barrett go after he struggled in the College Football semifinal loss last weekend to the Clemson Tigers, a laughable position given how much Barrett has meant to the program and his impressive production over the last three seasons.
However, with Ohio State poised to once again contend for the Big Ten and national titles next season under new offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson, it didn’t make much sense for Barrett to leave, even if he played his best under Herman.
The Longhorns are set to have three scholarship quarterbacks on campus this spring, including returning starter Shane Buechele and early enrollee Sam Ehlinger, but could still pursue a junior college target or another graduate transfer if Herman feels the program needs four players at the position.
