The Texas Longhorns have a new target at inside linebacker — Dodge City CC product Gary Johnson, who announced his offer via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon:

The 6’1, 225-pounder is open enough that he set an official visit to Austin for January 20, according to his 247Sports profile.
In December, Johnson visited Arizona State and will trip out to Oregon the week before making it to Texas.
The former Alabama commit also holds offers from the likes of Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Missouri, Ohio State, Ole Miss, TCU, and West Virginia, so getting Johnson on campus so quickly after entering his recruitment is a positive sign for Texas.
The ‘Horns do not currently feature any inside linebacker commits in the 2017 class, giving Johnson the potential to make a quick impact on the depth chart if he commits to head coach Tom Herman and his staff.
A consensus four-star prospect, Johnson is the No. 6 junior college prospect nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
