The head injuries sustained by Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger and sophomore center Zach Shackelford have both players in concussion protocol and listed as day-to-day, according to head coach Tom Herman on Monday.

During the teleconference with Big 12 coaches earlier in the day, Herman said that Ehlinger was cleared to practice all week heading up to the Oklahoma State game after he hit his head on the turf at the Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma.

However, Herman said that he didn’t know whether that hit impacted Ehlinger’s subsequent concussion symptoms, which began to emerge on Saturday evening after he met with the media.

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Reggie Hemphill-Mapps suffered a sprained knee against the Cowboys and the team hopes to have him back at practice on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sophomore running back Kyle Porter did not play against Oklahoma State due to an ankle injury he suffered against Oklahoma, but Herman said that he is now free of symptoms and will play this weekend in Waco.
