Given all the co-starters across multiple positions for each Texas Longhorns depth chart this fall, the Monday release has been relatively easy to ignore, but in preparation for the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, there were some notable co-starters.

At quarterback, sophomore Shane Buechele was listed as a co-starter with freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger despite Ehlinger’s superlative performance against Kansas State in his third start.
Head coach Tom Herman played coy in his press conference, noting that he doesn’t have much incentive to share any knowledge he has of who will start, even if he did know.
For now, it seems as if the coaching staff is waiting to see how healthy Buechele is as he continues to recover from his sprained ankle and let the quarterbacks compete once he is 100 percent again.
However, at this point it’s hard to imagine that Buechele is in position to earn the start in the Cotton Bowl.
The running back position is also a bit more crowded now, with freshman Toneil Carter joining sophomore Kyle Porter and junior Chris Warren III as co-starters at the position. Carter had the most juice against the Wildcats, but carried the ball only six times, with all of them coming in the first half.
An improving offensive line now features sophomore Denzel Okafor listed first as a co-starter with senior Tristan Nickelson at left tackle. At right tackle, freshman Derek Kerstetter now seems entrenched. And despite junior Terrell Cuney playing well in his first extended playing time, sophomore Zach Shackelford will start against Oklahoma if his surgically-repaired ankle.
