On National Signing Day, the most important and most anticipated decision for the Texas Longhorns is that of Galena Park North Shore defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson, the nation’s No. 37 prospect, who is expected to make his decision around 11 a.m. CT (watch the live stream here).
However, the news may not be good for Texas despite plenty of reason for optimism down the stretch — the LSU Tigers are trending heavily in Chaisson’s 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions.
It started on Tuesday evening, when 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong and National Recruiting Inside Ryan Bartow both put in picks in favor of the Tigers. Many more followed, including those from both the LSU and Texas sides.
Now, the 6’4, 220-pounder is known as a rather unique character in recruiting circles, so it’s possible that Chaisson could still end up at Texas, but things are not looking positive.
As the top target down the stretch besides junior college linebacker Gary Johnson and the planned crown jewel of National Signing Day, Chaisson is a hugely important player for the class.
Missing on him would represent a major hit to head coach Tom Herman’s first class and a significant early failure for defensive coordinator Todd Orlando:
Assuming K'Lavon Chaisson signs with LSU, as now expected, Texas will finish without a Top 10 kid from Texas for the first time ever.

The Texas brand just isn’t what it used to be.
