Texas women’s basketball faces No. 6-seeded North Carolina State

The Lady Longhorns will try to consolidate the momentum created by Friday’s easy victory.

In the second round of the 2017 NCAA tournament, the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team will play the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Sunday in Austin at the Erwin Center.

The game tips off at 1:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN2.

Texas cruised to an easy 78-50 win over Central Arkansas on Friday to advance, while NC State defeated Auburn by double digits.

The victory over the Tiger marked the first NCAA tournament win for the Wolfpack since 2007, spurred by 23 points from senior Dominique Wilson.

Since NC State has made 110 more three pointers this season than Texas and have several capable shooters led by Wilson, Jennifer Mathurin, and Ashley Williams, head coach Karen Aston’s team will have to defend the line well.

If the game comes down to the wire, Texas could have an advantage — NC State was outscored by opponents in the fourth quarter this season.

The Lady Longhorns, by comparison, have been dominant in the second half this season and hold an advantage over the competition in the final frame.
