The women’s basketball team has advanced to the Sweet 16.

“It’s the standard,” said McCarty, speaking about the team’s recent success in the NCAA Tournament.

The women's team survived 80-84 in a win over NC State.

X factor: Holmes made those two big plays at the end of the game, drawing the charge and then getting the rebound off her teammate's missed free throw and the putback. Holmes finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

The baseball team lost to Texas Tech in their first series in conference play.

“Texas Tech is a lot better than us right now, and we’ve got to improve,” said Texas coach David Pierce, whose team is 13-9 and now 0-3 in Big 12 play. “The one thing I do think, we have is some resilience. There’s nobody in that clubhouse giving up; it’s really early.”
