LB Alston Orji and 2019 DB Anfernee Orji to visit Texas this weekend

The elder Orji is a key target in a down year for linebackers in the state.

The stream of visitors to the Texas Longhorns campus will continue this weekend, as head coach Tom Herman and his staff are set to host Rockwall linebacker Alston Orji and his younger brother, Anfernee, a 2019 defensive back/outside linebacker prospect, according to multiple reports.

A 6’2, 214-pounder, Alston earned an offer from the previous staff following a satellite camp last June and is still a target of the new coaching staff.

Ranked as the No. 1 linebacker in the state and the No. 5 inside linebacker in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Orji currently holds 15 offers, including Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, and UCLA, among others.

As is becoming increasingly common in the state once again, Orji’s recruitment could come down to a battle between the Longhorns and Sooners, as a recent junior day visit to Norman produced a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Oklahoma.

However, the momentum throughout much of his recruitment seemed belonged to Texas — the ‘Horns received the first four projections made for Orji, including one in January.

The only other inside linebacker offered by Herman and his staff at this time is USC commit Palaie Gaoteote, so Orji is unquestionably at the top of the recruiting board at that position right now.

Anfernee’s recruitment is just getting started, as the 6’1, 205-pounder only holds a single offer from Arkansas at the moment, but should see that list expand during the spring evaluation period.

With the Sooners currently holding the apparent momentum for the two brothers, this will be an important visit for Herman and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando to sell the elder Orji on his potential future in Austin.
