Following practice on Thursday, Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman announced that junior running back Chris Warren (hamstring) and sophomore center Zach Shackelford (ankle) will miss the rest of spring practice.
Warren had returned from a PCL injury that ended his 2016 season after the fourth game, while Shackelford dealt with ankle injuries through the entirety of his freshman season.
And so while the injuries themselves are not long-term concerns, the ability of both players to stay healthy for a full season is a growing concern.
The nagging injury that will sideline Warren is one of many in the running back corps — sophomore Tristian Houston suffered an ankle injury in last weekend’s scrimmage, the first of the spring, while early enrollee Toneil Carter is also suffering from an ankle injury, one that kept him out of the scrimmage.
Meanwhile, junior running back Kirk Johnson is still not healthy after knee surgery caused him to miss his entire sophomore season.
Senior safety Jason Hall is also out for the spring due to a hamstring injury.
