The pursuit of a top quarterback to spark momentum in the 2018 Texas Longhorns recruiting class should come to a fruitful conclusion on Thursday, when Moore (Okla.) Southmoore product Casey Thompson announces his decision at 2:15 p.m. CT in his school’s gymnasium, according to Scout and confirmed by other outlets.

Four-star Casey Thompson makes his annoucement

The 6’1, 184-pounder, who is the son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson and the younger brother of former Oklahoma and Utah quarterback Kendal Thompson, visited Texas in late February for a Junior Day and once again more recently.

Following a recent trip to North Carolina, it appeared that the Tar Heels took the lead in his recruitment with a huge surge in his 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions.

However, Thompson disagreed with the assessment that the ‘Horns were fading in his recruitment and told Burnt Orange Nation that “things are still heating up” and that he remained in daily communication with the Texas staff.

Less than two weeks after those statements, industry opinion swung once again in favor of the Longhorns — there have been 18 Crystal Ball predictions in the last 10 days for head coach Tom Herman’s program.

So Herman and his staff appear extremely well positioned to execute one of the rarest of Texas recruiting feats — pulling not only a Sooner State native south over the Red River, but an Oklahoma legacy.

If Thompson does commit and eventually ascends to a starting role, that would make for some intriguing storylines heading into the Cotton Bowl.

At the least, it looks like there’s a strong chance Thompson will be wearing burnt orange and white on the sideline starting in 2018.
