Open Thread: Texas battles Long Beach State with a spot to the Super Regionals on the line

The third and final game of the Longhorn saga promises to be a good one — if you can stay up for it.

You know the drill.

Texas Longhorns baseball will face off with the Long Beach State Dirtbags in the NCAA regional final in Long Beach. The first pitch will be at 10 pm CST and the game will be broadcast on ESPN 2.

After defeating Long Beach State 5-3 on Saturday night, and then falling to the Dirtbags 4-3 on Sunday night, the Longhorns must win tonight in order to make it to their first Super Regional since 2014.

Sophomore lefty Nick Kennedy will get the start for the ‘Horns and Michael McCann will replace Michael Cantu at catcher after Cantu’s rough Sunday night. Kody Clemens has also been inserted into the lineup in favor of the struggling freshman Austin Todd.

Long Beach State is surprisingly starting their stud Dave Smith after smith pitched a complete game shutout on Friday against San Diego State. It will be interesting to see how long Smith can go, as the Dirtbags have a very empty bullpen behind him.
