Texas Longhorns baseball will have an early litmus test to determine how dangerous the 'Horns can be in 2018.
LSU athletics announced Tuesday that the Tigers will be hosting the Longhorns at the end of February.
The early season match-up will be the first time Texas and LSU have played since the 2009 College World Series. The Tigers ultimately prevailed two games to one in that championship series, defeating the 'Horns 11-4 in the deciding game.
Last season, Texas went to the Long Beach regional final before losing to one-seeded Long Beach State in an elimination game. LSU made it all the way to the College World Series championship before falling to Florida.
Texas will be replacing a significant amount of talent from the 2017 team, as the 'Horns had 11 players drafted and signed to the MLB. Among the departing players are ace starter Morgan Cooper and star first baseman Kacy Clemens.
