Texas football is on a recruiting roll, but don't overlook Shaka Smart and the Longhorns basketball program.
Four-star combo guard Jared Butler named Texas to his top six teams on Tuesday night. The Riverside Academy (La.) recruit is also considering Alabama, Baylor, USC, Virginia, and Wichita State.
Butler is ranked as the No. 94 overall player in the class of 2018 and the No. 22 shooting guard.
The 6'2, 175 pounder's stock has been rising rapidly after a breakout junior season. He has continued to thrive this summer by shining in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League circuit.
Butler is a perfect fit for Shaka Smart's offense as an athletic, high-scoring combo guard.
The Louisiana product received a Texas offer on May 3, and visited Austin unofficially on June 15.
Texas currently has one commit in the class of 2018, as four-star wing Brock Cunningham pledged to the Longhorns on August 4. Malcolm Epps, a four-star tight end who committed to Texas on Tuesday, may also play basketball at Texas as he received an offer from Smart in May.
