Texas Longhorns sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele may not be available for the Texas Longhorns against the San Jose State Spartans on Saturday, as head coach Tom Herman said on Thursday that whether Buechele plays will be a game-time decision.
Buechele suffered a bruised throwing shoulder at some point during the season opener against Maryland and didn’t miss any snaps, but woke up sore on Sunday and has missed practice this week.
On Wednesday, offensive coordinator Tim Beck said he wasn’t sure if the staff would be comfortable starting Buechele without any practice time this week.
The back-up quarterback is freshman Sam Ehlinger, an early enrollee from Austin Westlake. Junior wide receiver Jerrod Heard has also been taking reps as the emergency quarterback this week.
