After Texas Longhorns offensive line coach Derek Warehime changed his Twitter bio indicate that he’s now a tight ends coach for the Longhorns, a school official confirmed the reassignment to multiple outlets.
Last week, head coach Tom Herman hired Herb Hand from Auburn as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, leaving Warehime’s future in limbo. There was speculation that the two could split offensive line coaching duties, but it now appears that Warehime will now coach another position group.
Now the question is what happens with tight ends coach Corby Meekins, who hasn’t yet updated his Twitter profile. The former Westfield High School head coach has the expertise to coach multiple positions, but based on a report from The Football Brainiacs last Friday, Meekins could coach inside wide receivers while current wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer works with the outside wide receivers.
Meekins could also take over full-time responsibility of coaching special teams, a role currently held by safeties coach Craig Naivar.
According to the school, however, Herman still hasn’t made a final determination regarding the assignments of other staff members beyond Hand and Warehime.
