During the weekly Big 12 teleconference this week, Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman revealed that senior left guard Patrick Vahe suffered a minor knee sprain against the Baylor Bears on Sunday.
Vahe briefly left the game and was replaced on the left side by right guard Elijah Rodriguez. However, the 37-game starter is cleared to practice and should be fully healthy by the Oklahoma State game barring any setbacks.
Considering that Vahe has been the weakest link in that group this year with struggles in pass protection and acquiring defenders when pulling, Rodriguez on the left with sophomore Derek Kerstetter next to redshirt freshman Sam Cosmi at right tackle might represent an overall upgrade. It just shouldn’t take an injury to force that change or at least introduce more of a rotation at that position.
