For the first time in seven seasons, ESPN’s College Gameday was on-hand for the Red River Showdown at the Cotton Bowl and the highlight of that show is the analyst and celebrity picks. And just like the analysis has shown all week, nobody really knows how this one will play out.
Early in the show after a feature piece on Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback Kyler Murray, ESPN analyst David Pollack said that in-spite of the fact that Texas cannot keep up with the Oklahoma offense, he thinks the Longhorns find a way to win.
Celebrity guest picker Toby Keith made the pick everyone expected, as the Oklahoma native chose the Oklahoma Sooners to win the game.
Then came the actual experts.
Heisman trophy winner cited that the Texas defense couldn’t keep up with Murray and picked the Oklahoma Sooners, while Kirk Herbstreit said that in-spite of the Texas defense forcing turnovers the Sooners would come out on top.
To close it out with his famous “headgear” pick, longtime host Lee Corso donned the horse head to make it a clean sweep of the panel hosts.
As far as the on-field results, it’s been a mixed bag over the last five seasons, with Texas winning just two. However, all three of Oklahoma’s wins have been by five points.
